JJ Bird given all-clear to box

Promoter Robert Waterman last night confirmed the 25 year-old light-middleweight from Bretton will box on the show at the Exec Arena at the East of England Showground on Friday, March 9.

The bill also features local crowd-pleasers Cello Renda, Caine Brodie and Jake Dyer and is topped by Martin Gethin, the former English lightweight champion from Walsall, boxing Ivan Godor for the vacant International Masters belt.

Tickets are selling well for the first show in the city since December, 2007 – and Bird is sure to attract a big following.

He has around 60,000 followers on Twitter and JLS star and boyhood pal Aston Merrygold could be among the ringsiders in Peterborough next month.

Caine Brodie can’t wait to have a punch up in Peterborough

Brodie relaunches his exciting professional career at the Exec Arena at the East of England showground on Friday, March 9 when local crowd-pleasers Cello Renda, JJ Bird and Jake Dyer also box on a championship bill.

Brodie, out of the ring since November, 2009, says he feels “bigger and stronger” after deciding to campaign at light-heavyweight and teaming up with nutritionist Karen Devine.
And the 29 year-old from Gunthorpe is planning to tear up the text book before his comeback fight.

“I like having a good old-fashioned punch up,” he said. “I’ve tried studying tapes and text books and it doesn’t work for me. I don’t want to spend too much time thinking about my boxing or my opponents. I like going back to basics and having a punch up.

The Wrath of Caine

Caine Brodie will be keen to be a part of Peterborough’s boxing revival.

Brodie is an all-action super-middleweight and former amateur star who will relaunch
his career on the show after more than two years out of the ring.

Brodie, a winner of four of five super-middleweight fights, was a top-class amateur.

Rick Green, the head coach at Focus ABC, took Brodie to the National Schoolboy
championship final and as a senior with Phil Prout’s Arena ABC, he reached the
semi finals of the ABA championship in 2006-2007.

Prout will be training Brodie, sponsored by SJS Plastering and The Vykin
Corporation, at his York Road gym in the countdown to the show – and once a
week, they will head to manager Johnny Eames’ gym in Canning Town for top-class
sparring with the likes of former British cruiserweight champion Leon Williams.

Britain’s most exciting fighter returns!

Next month’s show in Peterborough features the return of British boxing’s most exciting toe-to-toe slugger.

Cello Renda has been added to promoter Robert Waterman’s show at the Peterborough Arena at the East of England Showground on Friday, March 9 – and that means fight fans are guaranteed plenty of thrills.

Renda is a heart-on-his-sleeve gunslinger who has thrilled fans around the world.
Footage of his astonishing double knockdown with Paul Samuels in November, 2009 has had more than 350,000 hits on YouTube and was used as part of Sky Sports’ advertising campaign.

And his ‘Prizefighter’ final against Martin Murray is regarded as possibly the most exciting punch up in the tournament’s history . . .

Big time fight promoter Robert Waterman has joined forces with local businessmen to deliver a spectacular evening of boxing featuring some of the region’s brightest young stars on March 9th 2012.
